DISTANCE
Measure distance of moving objects
to measure distance with radar we need modulation.
Transmitting on two frequencies allows us to measure the phase of a moving object.
It is a low cost range measurement and can support multiple target processing.
We call this FSK ranging (frequency shift keying) because we are switching between two different transmit frequencies.
Combining multiple receive antennas we can track the object over range and angle.
Measure distance of static objects
measuring static objects requires a continuous modulation of the transmit frequency. We call it FMCW processing (frequency modulated continuous wave)
Digital signal processing extracts the targets from the analog radar signals.
A controller with DSP functions is needed.
To get low error measurements the requirements on the analog hardware are more demanding than for CW or FSK sensors.
